Indoor Producer of the Year
Entrants need to provide evidence, where appropriate, of key production figures, a focus on welfare and sustainability, herd health planning, biosecurity protocols, any new initiatives or investments in new buildings and equipment, staff motivation and training and contributions to the wider industry. It can also include marketing activities. Please note, performance records should show: conception rate, farrowing rate, the number of pigs born, weaned and sold per sow, daily live weight gain and FCR, plus, ideally, costs.

Outdoor Producer of the Year

Farm Vet of the Year
In a change to previous years, this award is now open to all individual vets, recognising the huge contribution they make to the health of the entire pig sector. Judges will be looking for examples of proactive herd health management, evidence of addressing on-farm disease challenges and a strong focus on pig welfare.

Finisher of the Year
This award is based on key performance data, including growth rates and feed conversion rates. The judges will also consider the proportion of pigs sent which are within the weight range (‘the box’) and grading, while welfare and other general information will be taken into account.
Herd Productivity Award
This is a data-based category given to a business which can demonstrate improvement in herd productivity, while also delivering on other important objectives, such as weaning weight, herd health and welfare and feed usage.

Innovation of the Year
This is an award for farmers or farm businesses, not suppliers. You must demonstrate any initiative, idea or business development concept which has come to fruition in the last 12 months and is new in your business. It can encompass a new product or initiative to improve unit performance or pig welfare or ease the burden on staff, a
site development, investment or a business scheme that is new and has benefited the business. Its potential wider industry impact will be taken into account.

Marketing Initiative of the Year
This award is to encourage and reward marketing efforts by producers. The judges will be looking at how producers have developed new markets for the product, either domestically or overseas, developed their product to create a brand, or successfully marketed their product to increase sales.
Stockperson of the Year
Entries can be nominated by the employing farmer or the employee. If the entry is a self -nomination, it must also include an employer’s reference. Judges are looking for evidence of excellence in pig husbandry, commitment to the job, an innovation or concept that the stockperson has been responsible for innovation and of ‘going the extra mile’ in the job.

Sustainable Farming Award
This award will recognise an outstanding pig farming business that has examined its carbon footprint and made measurable improvements to its environmental sustainability. Evidence must be provided about the steps and initiatives taken, including changes in feed or supplements, other inputs or buildings and equipment and general farm and land management to reduce emissions, minimise pollution and boost biodiversity.

Trainee of the Year
This award is open to all British pig unit personnel who can show how training is benefiting both their career and livestock performance on their unit. Where possible, this can be supported by unit performance data. Nominations are welcomed from both experienced individuals and newcomers to the industry.

Unit Manager of the Year
Entries for this category can be nominated by the owner or by the employee. If the latter, a reference from the owner will be required. Judges will be looking for evidence of how the manager has driven the business forward, as well as excellence in motivating staff, hitting targets and a commitment to record keeping.
Young Pig Farmer of the Year
This category is open to anyone 35 or under on December 31, 2025. Your entry must include details of involvement in the business, the delivery of new initiatives on-site, excellence in the role and a commitment to the wider industry.
